Starting in the fiscal year 2023, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will initiate a new program to support local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and venture companies through crowdfunding. The program will have two schemes: Equity-based Crowdfunding (ECF) and Reward-based Crowdfunding.
In the ECF model, ventures that are less than five years old can receive investments in exchange for issuing shares. The subsidy will cover half of the handling fees, up to a limit of 3 million JPY.
Reward-Based Crowdfunding will support the development of products and services contributing to energy-saving and zero-emission goals. The subsidy here will also cover half of the handling fees, but the limit is set at 400,000 JPY.
The program is expected to contribute not only to Tokyo's startup support initiatives, but also its broader goals of energy efficiency, zero emissions, and digital transformation (DX).
