Generative AI start-up Sakana AI is set to receive a valuation in the region of USD 1.125 billion (approximately JPY 180 billion) just one year after its founding.

Sakana AI was founded in Tokyo last July by a group of AI researchers from Google, and focuses on research into fundamental AI models for generating text and images. The company's technology has attracted worldwide attention for its ground-breaking method of creating high-performance models by crossing existing AI models.

Sakana AI is believed to be the fastest company to achieve unicorn status from Japan.
