On 29 January, the Tokai National University Organisation held a ceremony to mark the completion of the new industry-academia collaboration centre, the Tokai Open Innovation Complex (TOIC), at Nagoya University's Higashiyama Campus. TOIC aims to promote open innovation through joint research with companies and to foster start-ups originating from universities.

TOIC was built at a total cost of approximately JPY 1.5 billion. The seven-story facility includes a members-only co-working space, an event space, and private rooms available for company hire.

The new centre will work with research institutions at Nagoya University and Gifu University to deepen cooperation with local manufacturing companies, as well as with startup campuses Station Ai in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya City's Nago Campus, which will open in October.
