Shibuya Sakura Stage, a startup campus directly connected to Shibuya Station, held their opening ceremony on 25 July, with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in attendance.
In collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US, Shibuya Sakura Stage is developing a start-up support program aiming to become the centre of a modern start-up ecosystem, continuing Shibuya's tradition as an IT industry cluster in the 1990s, when it was known as 'Bit Valley'.
At the ceremony, the Prime Minister stated that, "start-ups are important players in the 'new capitalism,'" and stressed that he hoped the facility would serve as a base for start-up support and create new innovations and expressed hope for “the return of Bit Valley in 2025.”
