On the 19th, Nikkei Inc. held the Tohoku regional tournament of “NIKKEI THE PITCH Growth” (co-hosted by Kahoku Shimpo) in Sendai City. A diverse range of business ideas were presented, including space development, recycling-oriented agriculture using beetles, drug discovery experiments using iPS cells, early detection tests for cancer, and nursing care support equipment.

The entrepreneurs, who aim to solve issues unique to Tohoku, presented their visions for sustainable industries and regional revitalization, and the judges also praised their growing ambition to transform the region from one that is advanced in terms of issues to one that is advanced in terms of solving issues. The event gave a sense of the potential for the startup ecosystem in Tohoku to expand.
