Hokkaido University establishes startup fund

Hokkaido University has announced the establishment of the Hokkaido University Green Frontier Fund, a fund designed to support startups starting spring 2024.

The total of ¥3 billion in funding will be managed by 15th Rock, a venture capital firm based in Tokyo. The company is seeking investors its 10-year term. In particular, the fund aims to support the growth of startups related to primary industries and decarbonization technologies.

The Hokkaido University Green Frontier Fund will invest in companies that utilize Hokkaido University's research, with a view to investing in 10 to 15 companies. This move is the result of Hokkaido University actively seeking the participation of relevant venture capitalists to accelerate the commercialization of its research.
