The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will establish a large-scale startup support center in FY2023. The center will house VCs, accelerators, universities, and entrepreneurs to create an environment conducive to the development and support of startups. The project is expected to cost 2.5 billion yen, with full-scale operations scheduled to begin in FY2024.The facility will be called "Tokyo Innovation Base" and will be modeled after Station F in France, which is known as one of the world's leading startup support centers.According to an overseas ranking survey, Tokyo's environment for fostering startups is lower than that of Beijing, Shanghai, and Seoul. Compared to the U.S., the number of startups is also scarce. At a press conference following the assessment, Ms. Koike, governor of Tokyo, stated, "We will create a Tokyo where startups are born.”
