Teller Novel, a platform for distributing and reading novels on smartphones, raised JPY 650 million in a Series A round.

Smartphone novels are attracting attention as a place for original works after the surge in popularity of webtoons, a a new comic format originating from South Korea.

Webtoons’ vertically scrolling format was designed to be read on mobile devices. They entered the eye of the general public after the release of the films 'Itaewon Class' and 'Sweet Home', both of which were based on webtoons.

Teller Novel will use the funds raised to invest in business and acquire human resources, including support for authors.
