Shibuya startup haven: Tokyo's cutting-edge initiative boosts 11 global ventures

#Consortium, #Funding, #Startup Support

Shibuya Startups, a startup incubator established in February with backing from Shibuya City Hall, announced that it has selected 11 companies — both domestic and international — for its support program. Its goal is to assist these startups in expanding their business in the Japanese market while invigorating industries centered in Shibuya.

Among the selected are a U.S. startup developing walking aids equipped with automatic braking and health monitoring features and a Swedish company offering a platform that allows artists to directly connect with their fans through voice conversations. The focus is on companies addressing challenges in Japan's aging society or contributing to the development of Japanese culture, such as anime.

Key investors in Shibuya Startups include Tokyu Corporation, Tokyu Real Estate, and GMO Internet Group. As part of the program, the selected startups will receive free office space for a year and support in establishing collaborations with Japanese companies.
