Leave a Nest, a startup support company, has created an indefinite term fund to support R&D-based startups.
The amount pledged for the fund is 130 million yen, with a standard investment of 5 million yen per company.More than 30 people, including Leave a Nest employees, will invest in the fund.
The company is a startup founded in 2001 by graduate students in science and engineering, and started out by giving lectures on science and technology. Since then, the company has developed new businesses and startup support by leveraging its understanding of technology and its expertise in communicating it to the public.
Typical venture capital firms and funds invest for a 10-year term, but that does not cover all the startups involved in research and development.
The fund will provide financial support for research and development that will take 15 or 20 years to commercialize, with an indefinite investment period.
