The My Pace Dairy Exchange Association from Hokkaido has been awarded the Japan-Korea International Environmental Award, an international award dedicated to sustainable dairy farming tailored to the local climate and environment.
In the past many dairies expanded rapidly due to government subsidies, leading to a ‘dairy bubble.’ However, the surge in feed prices due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine highlighted the challenges of large-scale dairy farming. The My Pace approach prioritizes the health of their cows — meaning that they seldom require veterinary attention — as well as leveraging the unique conditions of the Nemuro region to establish a circular dairy farming system that harmonizes soil, grass, and cows.
