History
Kokura Castle
Kokura Castle was built on a plateau in the center of Kitakyushu City , making it very convenient for transportation. It is exceptionally popular with visitors. One reason is that famed swordmaster Miyamoto Musashi stayed in Kokura. The famous historical "Battle of Ganryu Island" between Miyamoto Musashi and his rival, Sasaki Kojiro, was also in Kokura.

Moji Port
Moji Port is home to numerous historic buildings that attest to its former prosperity. The area is particularly attractive at night, and many visit the area to see the buildings, which were built with the most advanced design and technology of their time.
Nature
Mt. Hiko
Mt. Hiko is one of Kyushu's most enjoyable scenic hikes, with a history that intertwines with the Shugendo sect of Buddhism. Just over an hour's drive from Fukuoka City , Mt. Hiko is one of the best opportunities to challenge your legs. The longest hike is 17 kilometers and takes five to seven hours.

Kawachi Fujien Wisteria Garden, set in the hills to the southwest of Kitakyushu, is most famous for its two 100-meter-long tunnels of wisteria. The gardens open to the public twice a year: once during the wisteria season in spring and once during the fall.

Kitakyushu: the city of steel
