History
Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine
Hundreds of Tenmangu shrines exist across Japan, each dedicated to the spirit of the learned scholar Michizane Sugawara. Among these, two reign supreme: Kyoto's Kitano Tenmangu and Fukuoka's Dazaifu Tenmangu, which is built above the grave of Michizane. Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine itself is magnificent, and it is further complemented by extensive grounds covered with thousands of beautiful plum trees.
Eat & Drink
Fukuoka Yatai Food Stalls
Yatai serve up some of the best street food in Fukuoka . These temporary food stalls are set up every evening across the city and draw crowds of locals and visitors. It's not just about the food, though; the close-knit atmosphere is part of their appeal.
History
Fukuoka Castle (Maizuru Park)
The walls of Fukuoka Castle are immense, and several lie concentric within each other. Each takes you higher and higher above the city, and at the very center, where the main keep used to stand, is a viewing platform that offers 360-degree views of the city and demonstrates the castle's strategic importance.
Fukuoka, the gateway to Asia and the prodigy of the Japanese startup scene

Gateway to Asia

Fukuoka is the historical gateway to the rest of Asia. With short hops to Seoul, Shanghai, Taipei, Hong Kong, and many other regional cities, it is the perfect hub for international business and shipping.

Excellent startup support

Fukuoka, the first city in Japan to offer startup visas, has been designated a “special zone for global entrepreneurship and job creation” and actively supports the creation of startups and new businesses. It is home to a cluster of incubation facilities, co-working spaces, accelerators, and VCs, and also receives generous support from the local government.

Food culture and a highly developed transportation network

Fukuoka has incredible quality of life, with its renowned food stall culture, historical landmarks, and ready access to nature. It is also very convenient for transportation, with access to ferries from the port, a Shinkansen station, and the airport only 10 minutes from the city center.
