Anime x NFT Startups in Japan

October 12, 2022

Anime and manga are probably the most widely known - and widely loved - cultural exports from Japan. Covering every conceivable genre for every age group, it’s less a medium than it is a lifestyle; anime and manga expos and conventions attract huge crowds of fans who come to share their love of their favorite works, cosplay as their favorite characters, and meet other like-minded people. At least half foreign residents you meet in Japan will mention their interest in anime or manga sparking their interest in the country or the language!

How Anime x NFT works

The combination of Anime and NFT is an adaptation of the NFT mechanism for buying and selling digital works on the blockchain to the anime industry. For instance, original animation drawings and animation illustrations created by famous illustrators can be purchased via NFT. This is especially relevant for creators since the digital market has historically been flooded with pirate copies of their work because they were so easy to copy. However, by using blockchain technology, each digital work can be proven to be authentic, allowing users to purchase works to the benefit of both the buyer and the original artist.

A community bringing Otaku around the world together

Otaku Coin Association is working to promote the animation industry and community as a whole, and to spread anime to the world with enthusiastic anime fans around the world. Otaku is a Japanese term referring to someone with a highly intense interest in something - often anime. In the OtakuCoin app, community members receive coins by expressing how much they love anime, watching trailers, and sharing information on social media.

Kyuzan

The company develops and provides "Mint," an NFT development platform that allows brands to easily build original NFT stores that can express their unique worldview. Mint provides a blockchain and backend solution that allows large IP content holders, top creators, and high brands to create and sell NFT stores that are in line with their own brand image rather than in a miscellaneous marketplace. Kyuzan also provides blockchain and back-end solutions so that top creators can create and sell their own NFT shops in line with their own brand image.

Anique

Anique is working on large-scale IPs such as "Shinkage no Kyojin," the company holds online exhibitions using WebGL. The company has worked with more than 20 companies, including Kodansha, Shueisha, KADOKAWA, and Toei Animation.

In March 2022, Anique released a beta version of "Collection," a service which allows content holders in the IP business to launch blockchain-based digital collections without the need for development with the aim of democratizing NFTs.

ANIFTY

ANIFTY is an NFT platform released in June 2021 by ANIFTY Corporation, based in Tokyo. Their first ANIFTY Collection, which was released on June 13, 2021, for a limited time only, sold out immediately and has a large fan base despite its limited release.
